In a bid to
promote sports and sports culture in the state, the Punjab government today
gave cash awards to 383 sportspersons who have brought accolades for the
district in international as well as national level sports events. A district
level function was organised at Pal Auditorium in Punjab Agricultural
University where an amount of Rs 56,75,300 was distributed amongst 383
sportspersons by Punjab Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon.
While
addressing the gathering, Dhillon said for strengthening the overall sports
culture and infrastructure of the state, the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya
Janta Party government in Punjab has created a special fund of Rs 200 crore. He
said the Punjab government is committed for promoting sports culture in the
state. He said due to the efforts of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy
CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Punjab government has given jobs to 125 sportspersons
in the state.
While
addressing the gathering, Dhillon said Kabaddi sport is being promoted by the
Punjab government by organising Kabaddi World Cups.
During the
function, 15-year-old Rajvir Singh, a resident of Siarh village of the
district, who has made the district proud by clinching two gold medals in
cycling events at Special Olympics World Games held in Los Angeles (USA), was
also honoured along with World Champion Boxer Mandeep Kaur and NBA star Satnam
Singh Bhamra’s father.

among those present during the function included Additional Deputy Commissioner
(General) Kuldip Singh Vaid, ADCP (Crime) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, District
